Traditional with a twist. That’s how you might describe Wall Street United Church.
We are steeped in tradition. Since 1828, nearly 200 years, people have worshiped in this historic building and magnificent sanctuary complete with Casavant organ. We are also steeped in the long tradition of service and reaching out to those in need. Whether sponsoring refugees or displaced people, through offering free Sunday Suppers, organizing a food drive or simply a warm welcome.
So, what’s the twist? The twist is joy-filled modern praise music in worship. The twist is former alcoholics and addicts leading our Celebrate Life, evening worship service. The twist is a sanctuary full of guests for a gay wedding. The twist is a comment about us on Facebook that read: “What Christianity really means!” and “I’ve never seen the same level of love, acceptance, personal accountability and sense of community in any other church that I’ve seen at Wall Street.”
In short, the twist is a radical love that embraces God’s love for ALL people.
Rev. Dr. Kimberly Heath
Our Organization
In the United Church, the local congregation — comprising all members and adherents — has authority and responsibility in mission, faith and financial issues.
The Official Board, Stewards Committee, and Board of Trustees are elected by the congregation of Wall Street United Church at the Annual General Meeting, usually in March.
Fearlessly Forward - Our Strategic Plan
In 2023 Wall Street United Church embarked on a visioning process resulting in ‘Fearlessly Forward’, Wall Street United Church Strategic Plan.
Fearlessly Forward is God’s invitation to trust that we are uniquely called to share God’s transforming love with many in our church, in the community and Beyond the Walls.

Rev. Dr. Kimberly Heath elected 45th Moderator of the United Church of Canada
We are delighted to announce that the Rev. Dr. Kimberly Heath has been elected Moderator-elect of The United Church of Canada, following the vote held on August 10, 2025, at the 45th General Council in Calgary. Her election, decided on the third ballot from among five distinguished nominees, signals a renewed chapter of spiritual leadership and courageous vision for the United Church of Canada.
Rev. Dr. Heath brings to this role a deeply rooted ministry shaped by academic rigor, pastoral devotion, and bold imagination. Born in Lusaka, Zambia, and raised in various small Canadian communities, she holds a Bachelor’s in History from McGill University and a Master of Divinity from Emmanuel College. Ordained in 1999, she began her ministry in rural southern Alberta and has faithfully served Wall Street United Church in Brockville, Ontario, since 2007.

Moderator Installation Live Stream
Her recent Doctorate in Ministry, completed in 2023, centers on transformation in mainline preaching, guided by the themes “Aware, Repair, Renew.” Her vision recognizes the power of small acts to spark profound spiritual and communal change.
In reflecting on her call as Moderator-elect, Pastor Kim states: “As Moderator I will help to build up the church by deepening faith in Jesus, strengthening what is small and encouraging life-giving connections.” Kim envisions guiding the United Church of Canada through these turbulent times by embracing deep spirituality, meaningful connections, and the courage to imagine new pathways forward, even in the face of decline and adversity.
Please join us in celebrating her election and in offering prayerful support as she leads us into a vital and hopeful future.
The installation of Rev. Dr. Heath as the 45th Moderator will take place at Knox United Church, 506 4 St. SW, Calgary, Alberta, on Monday, August 11 at 7 pm MT / 9 pm EST. The service is open to anyone who would like to attend in person; it will also be Livestreamed on United Church Of Canada YouTube Channel.
ACTS Doctor of Ministry in Preaching - 2023
Thesis by Rev. Dr. Kimberly Heath
The goal of the sermon is not only to educate but to transform—a challenging and elusive task. How can a preacher create more transformative sermons? The answer may be in the preacher’s own church basement, hiding in plain sight. Three themes: Aware, Repair, Renew, describe in broad strokes the stages of the Twelve-Step program used by Alcoholics Anonymous to help transform an individual from addict or alcoholic to a life of sobriety and spiritual awakening. I argue that the themes of aware, repair, and renew have the potential to stir new life and deepen discipleship among listeners at a mainline church. I explore the way in which preachers can use these themes to structure their sermons, raise awareness of the hurt around us, encourage listeners to help transform lives, develop patience for repair, and instill faith in others.

Student Minister, Dr. Catherine Cavanagh
I am a former educator and Catholic high school chaplain, and spent my career in schools in Canada and Africa (Malawi and Zimbabwe). I believe that we are all God’s beloved, and that we come closer to God when we reach out to others—especially those who are most marginalized.
My sense of call to ordained ministry feels like a burning desire to speak of God’s love, and care for members of my community. It first began to become clear to me in the 1990s when I took on the role of chaplain at a camp for underprivileged boys from Toronto. I experienced a deep sense of passion for helping people to understand how deeply they are loved by God.
My interest in unexplored areas of ministry and theology, especially those around belonging and youth led me to complete a Doctorate in Ministry in 2018.
I enjoy hearing people’s stories, sharing a joke, and listening to good music (and sometimes playing it rather badly). I love to do crafts and write, and I am the author of various articles, essays, and short stories. I’m moved by the beauty of nature, and so grateful to live in this city on the edge of the St Lawrence River.
Above all, I’m a proud mother to Deborah and Luke, and still somehow hopelessly in love with Brian after decades of marriage.

Music Director, Samia O'Day
I’m passionate about creating a welcoming space where music helps deepen our connection to God and strengthens our sense of community. Through a blend of contemporary worship songs and traditional hymns, I aim to ensure that everyone feels invited to participate, no matter their musical background.
Working with Pastor Kim and the wonderful team here to create meaningful Sunday services is something I truly love. I also enjoy supporting our music team throughout the week as we prepare to enhance worship with music that will inspire and uplift the congregation.
In addition to my role at Wall Street, I am the Founder and Director of the Canada Music Academy, where I’ve had the joy of connecting thousands of students with talented music teachers across the country. My musical journey has been shaped by experiences such as winning the McGill Concerto Competition, releasing five albums, and receiving a FACTOR grant for my work as a singer-songwriter.
Music has always been central to my life, and I find so much joy in sharing that passion—whether by mentoring young musicians or leading the congregation in worship. With the support of a dedicated worship band, I’m committed to making our church a place where everyone feels welcome.
