Where is hope?
Where is Hope? As we prepare to light the first candle of Advent—the candle of Hope—this Sunday, we enter a season that begins not with answers, but with questions.
The International Day of Persons with Disabilities is on December 3rd, and especially for many in the disability community, hope isn’t an easy word. Hope gets tested in waiting rooms and inaccessible workplaces, in systems that overlook, in churches that forget to make room. Hope gets stretched thin by the daily labor of navigating a world not built with everybody or every mind in mind.
And yet—Advent tells us something astonishing: hope is not found by pretending everything is fine. Hope comes into the places that hurt. Hope draws near to the overlooked, the excluded, the exhausted. Hope takes the form of a God who chooses to arrive in vulnerability, not power.
